A sophisticated kind of x-ray inspection known as digital radiography (DR) generates a digital radiographic image on a computer screen instantaneously. During object examination, this method uses x-ray sensitive plates to gather data, which is then instantly sent to a computer without the need for an intermediary cassette. A detector sensor transforms the incident x-ray radiation into an equivalent electric charge and subsequently a digital image. Digital detector arrays, sometimes referred to as flat panel detectors, offer superior digital image quality as compared to alternative imaging systems. They may have enhanced dynamic range and a superior signal-to-noise ratio, which translates into excellent sensitivity for radiography applications. There are two methods that flat panel detectors use to operate: indirect conversion and direct conversion. The scintillator layer of indirect conversion flat panel detectors changes x-ray photons into visible light photons, which are then transformed into an electrical charge using an amorphous silicon photo diode matrix.
